ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — At least 150 houses were razed by fire in a beachside village in Isabela City, Basilan on Sunday, the Bureau of Fire Protection said.
According to the BFP, the blaze quickly spread through houses made of light materials in Barangay Diki on Malamawi Island, across the channel from Isabela City.
Sr. Insp. Vincent Toribio, Isabela city fire chief, said no one was hurt in the incident.
The local government provided assistance and supplies to the affected families.
“We stand united with our Barangay Diki community and are dedicated to ensuring that all necessary support is provided as we navigate this challenging time together,” Mayor Sitti Djalia Turubin-Hataman said.
