Filipinos open to buying phones, appliances with AI — study

MANILA, Philippines — A majority of Filipinos are in favor of purchasing smartphones and home appliances that have Artificial Intelligence (AI) features given their day-to-day assistance, according to a new study.

Electronics company Samsung surveyed more than 2,600 consumers in Southeast Asia for a consumer and market insights study and found out that two in three Filipinos lean toward devices with AI features because of how convenient and efficient they can be.

The study found that Filipinos mainly use AI for writing, language translation, and problem-solving, putting up numbers highter than other countries in the region.

Specifically, 44% of Filipino users use AI for writing versus 32% for the rest of Southeast Asia. 42% of Filipinos users use AI for language translation and 39% for problem solving, both higher than other Southeast Asian countries.

Filipinos also use AI for a number of creative tasks such as music composition, graphic design, cooking inspiration, and photography or videography.

In terms of creativity and experience, Filipino use AI for photo editing (48% of respondents), entertainment (42% of respondents), and new idea generation (also 42% of respondents).

Filipino users are drawn to mobile phones with AI features that can enhance productivity and creativity, including improved search, AI-assisted photo editing, and summarizing articles.
