MANILA, Philippines — The filing of counter-affidavits on Manases Carpio’s data privacy and bank secrecy complaint was moved to July 3, his spokesperson lawyer Neil Abayon said yesterday.

Abayon said the responding party requested during the preliminary investigation hearing to move the deadline as they had only received the addendum in the case.

Carpio filed a case against the Anti-Money Laundering Council, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona Jr., AMLC executive director Ronel Buenaventura and House Reps. Leila de Lima, Chel Diokno, Perci Cendaña and Gerville Luistro after his bank accounts were disclosed during a House committee on justice hearing on the impeachment of his wife, Vice President Sara Duterte.

Security and Exchange Commission chairman Francis Edralin Lim and Insurance Commission commissioner Reynaldo Regalado were later added in the complaint.

“We filed an addendum and included the SEC and the Insurance Commission (as respondents). They requested, since they only received the complaint, if possible that the counter-affidavit will be filed on July 3. Because of that, it also benefited the first set of respondents,” Abayon told reporters in a chance interview.

He maintained that Carpio’s data privacy and the bank secrecy law were violated.

“The Anti-Money Laundering Act is very straightforward, (that bank accounts) shall not be disclosed in any manner. Since the confidential information, AMLC information were disclosed, then that is a violation of the (law),” Abayon pointed out.

He maintained that the move will not affect the Vice President’s impeachment trial.
