Press Release
MANILA, Philippines — The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) met with new China Ambassador Jing Quan to promote stronger trade and tourism ties between the two countries as the Philippines prepares for its Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chairmanship.
In a statement, the FFCCCII said the group led by its president, Victor Lim, met with Quan to support the Philippine government’s goal of enhancing bilateral relations.
The meeting is timely as the Philippines prepares to host the 2026 ASEAN Summit.
It is also a direct response to President Marcos’ call to the federation to help deepen the country’s partnership, particularly with China.
During the meeting, FFCCCII presented a concrete action plan to Jing aimed at addressing the significant trade deficit with China by unlocking new opportunities for Philippine exporters and service providers.
As part of the action plan, the FFCCCII pledges to promote stronger bilateral cooperation by expanding Philippine exports to China.
In particular, the FFCCCII will conduct business forums and provide support to enable local entrepreneurs to participate in major Chinese import fairs, such as the China International Import Expo in Shanghai and the China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning.
To boost tourism ties, FFCCCII will also be promoting the Philippines as a premier destination for Chinese travelers.
Moreover, FFCCCII pledges to host the 2026 ASEAN Chinese Business Leaders Summit in Manila next October.
The FFCCCII’s commitment follows the successful inaugural summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last October.
The 2026 event will be a cornerstone of commemorative activities for the 5th Anniversary of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
“This drive for stronger regional economic integration carries greater urgency than ever as global protectionist trends underscore the critical need for robust trade and business ties within ASEAN and with China,” FFCCCII said.
