CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Three members of a family including a toddler were killed while another minor was wounded after they were stabbed multiple times allegedly by the partner of their relative in Talisay, Batangas on Friday night.
The fatalities, – a 59-year-old woman, her daughter, 33, and grandson, 2 – died from stab wounds in different parts of the body.
The women died at the scene of the attack that occurred at their house in Barangay Aya, according to Maj. El Cid Villanueva, Talisay police chief.
The boy was declared dead on arrival in a hospital, where his six-year-old brother was also rushed for treatment.
The minors’ sister, 15, and brother, 12, survived by jumping out of the window to escape the attack, Batangas police spokesperson Maj. Hazel Suarez said.
The siblings were in a room when they heard their relatives screaming, prompting them to flee, probers said.
The minors are children of the 33-year-old fatality.
Villanueva said the suspect was arrested in a follow-up operation in Barangay San Roque, Sto. Tomas City at past midnight yesterday.
Police said they seized from the suspect a bladed weapon believed used in the killing as well as the clothes he was wearing during the attack.
Villanueva said the suspect’s partner is a sister of the 33-year-old victim. She was reportedly in Sto. Tomas at the time of the attack.
The family has a shop in Sto. Tomas, which the women attend to during weekdays. They go home to Talisay every weekend, police said.
Suarez said the 33-year-old fatality had accused the suspect of rape.
Investigation showed the victims were asleep when the suspect barged into the house at past 10 p.m. and stabbed them repeatedly.
Probers expressed belief that the suspect wanted to stop the victims from filing a complaint of rape against him. — Emmanuel Tupas, Arnell Ozaeta
