MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Fabian is weakening as it moves out of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) while Tropical Storm Podul is expected to enter early next week, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

As of 5 p.m. yesterday, Fabian was located 245 kilometers west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. It was moving west-northwest at 15 kph and is forecast to weaken into a low-pressure area within 12 hours.

Meanwhile, Podul was last located more than 2,400 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon and is forecast to intensify into a severe tropical storm by today and possibly into a typhoon by tomorrow.

It may enter the PAR by tomorrow evening or early Monday, at which point it will be named Goryo.

It is expected to remain over the northern Philippine Sea with a low chance of making landfall. However, Batanes may experience strong winds and rains by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Rains over several areas of the country are still being brought by the southwest monsoon. Scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected tonight in Quezon province, the Bicol Region, Mimaropa, most of the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao.

Isolated rainshowers may occur in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and other parts of Mindanao.

Fair weather is expected in much of the Visayas and Mindanao, except for western Mindanao, where rains may persist.

No gale warnings were raised as of Friday, with moderate seas expected in most coastal waters.
