MANILA, Philippines — In yet another testament to the quality of Filipino exports, a coffee shop in Austria served coffee cocktails using Philippine specialty coffee and premium liquor during a Coffee in Good Spirits (CIGS) event in Vienna.

According to the Philippine embassy in Vienna, GOTA Coffee Experts – recently crowned as Europe’s number one coffee shop – showcased two unique coffee cocktails using single origin coffee from Mindanao mixed with Destileria Limtuaco liquor.

The coffee cocktails were created by GOTA Coffee Experts co-owner and 2022 Austrian CIGS champion Markus Brun together with 2021/2023 French CIGS champion Charlène Cabioch to officially launch this year’s Filipino Food Month in April.

The event held on April 4 builds on the embassy’s collaboration with GOTA last year, which sought to deepen appreciation of Philippine coffee and promote it to international markets.

Inspired by the Filipino favorite turon, one drink was made using the Very Old Captain Artisan-Crafted Dark Rum mixed with cold brew using Wide Awake PH’s Mt. Apo Lactic Honey and topped with banana cream to impart the distinct flavor of the Filipino snack.

Meanwhile, the other drink was made using Manille Liqueur de Dalandan and Wide Awake PH’s 72HR Anaerobic Natural espresso mixed with milk that was clarified using citrus.

“This month we want to show how Filipino single origin coffee and premium liquors can be combined to concoct drinks that highlight their characteristics and let you taste our truly world-class products,” Philippine Ambassador to Austria Evangelina Arroyo-Bernas said in her welcome remarks.

The Philippine specialty coffee from Mt. Apo and Bukidnon roasted by Wide Awake PH and Kape de Filipina will be available at GOTA Coffee Experts’ brew bar, while the two coffee cocktail concoctions will also be available on their coffee cocktail menu for this year’s Filipino Food Month throughout April.

Art cards designed by Philippine embassy Attaché Kristine Camille Cruz accompany each coffee order, with detailed information on their origin and flavor profile.
