TACLOBAN CITY — The Tinker House, with support from Forest Foundation Philippines, launched the Forest Echoes Project which aims to increase environmental awareness and appreciation among young students in Eastern Visayas.

Forest Echoes intends to foster long-term pro-environmental attitudes, particularly toward forest protection, with high hopes on creating the awareness until the youth become adult.

This project will be conducted with the help of Visayas State University Alangalang and the Eastern Visayas Regional Offices of the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Department of Sci-ence and Technology (DOST).

DOST Science Research Specialist Raymund Xavier Naboya, representing Regional Director John Glenn Ocaña, affirmed the agency's full backing for the campaign.

"We commend the Tinker House and the Forest Foundation Philippines for the launch of this Forest Echoes Project, which is timely to raise awareness about the vital role of wetlands in the ecosystem and the importance of empowering the young genera-tion as environmental stewards," Naboya said.

"We, at the DOST, invent and develop scientific and technological solutions to ensure environmental sustainability that will empower not just cities, but even the most remote communities; hence, we support this project at best," he added.

Forest Echoes plans to provide activities to chosen public schools in Leyte, and the exhibit will be donated to the Eastern Visa-yas Science Centrum for permanent exhibition.

The project created six conservation-themed Tinker Stations, each with hands-on learning activities for primary school stu-dents, including Peat Lab, Coastal Keep, Mangrove Manor, Reef Shack, Forest Dome, and Habitat Hall.

"We are extremely grateful for the support of all our partners in this important initiative," Tinker House CEO Mitzi Sabando told The Manila Times.

"This multi-sectoral support gives us immense hope that we can really start a movement and look forward to a future where all Filipino children have access to environmental education," she added.
