MANILA, Philippines — An all-electric taxi service has begun operations in Davao City, as Vietnamese company Green GSM launched its fleet in the city this week.

The launch—its first expansion outside Metro Manila—introduces zero-emission taxis to one of Mindanao’s largest urban centers.

The launch ceremony was attended by officials from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in the Davao Region, local government representatives, and members of the local business community.

Green GSM said its entry into Davao aligns with the city’s emphasis on public safety, environmental protection, and reliable transport services, as the city continues to see growth in population, commercial activity and daily travel demand.

The company operates exclusively all-electric vehicles, which produce zero tailpipe emissions, and employs full-time professional drivers trained to deliver standardized service. Pricing is displayed transparently through the company’s booking platform.

Unique model. Green GSM said the model, which started in Vietnam, is designed to support cleaner air, quieter streets, and predictable transport options for commuters, while aligning with Davao’s long-term goals for urban livability.

Its labor model is also new in the taxi space. Its drivers, Philstar.com has learned, are fully employed by the company and paid on salary with benefits, unlike drivers of traditional taxicab operators who earn on tight daily quotas, or "boundaries."

The vehicles used for the service are Vietnam-assembled VinFast Nerio Green, a re-engineered VF e34, a battery-electric compact crossover SUV. Such vehicles are separately marketed as cars for city use and ride-hailing.

Expansion. Dao Quy Phi, managing director of Green GSM Southeast Asia, said the Davao rollout is a step in the company’s national expansion plan for electric mobility.

“Davao is a city that places strong emphasis on order, safety, and environmental responsibility,” Phi said. “Our objective is to provide a reliable, zero-emission mobility option that aligns with these priorities while meeting the everyday transportation needs of local residents.”

He added that the company aims to work closely with local institutions and communities to ensure the service supports Davao’s long-term urban development goals.

How commuters can access the service

Davao commuters can book Green GSM taxis through the company’s mobile app, a hotline, designated pick-up points, or by hailing taxis on the street in key commercial districts.

As an introductory offer, new app users in Davao will receive 25 Green Points, equivalent to P25, which can be used for their first ride or future trips.

Green GSM began operations in the Philippines in June 2025 and said the Davao expansion reflects its continued focus on reliability, transparency, and environmentally responsible transport solutions.
