MANILA, Philippines — Gotianun-led East West Banking Corp. (EastWest) has expanded its partnership with Google Pay by enabling its debit cards on the digital wallet platform, allowing customers to make contactless payments using their smartphones.

The rollout marks an expansion of Google Pay’s local functionality after its Philippine launch in November 2025, when only EastWest credit cards were initially supported for the service.

EastWest CEO Jerry Ngo said the expansion of Google Pay support reflects the bank’s broader strategy to make digital payments more accessible.

“By enabling EastWest debit cards on Google Pay, we are giving our customers an easier way to pay. One that fits naturally into how they live, travel and shop today. This is part of our broader commitment to deliver secure, globally competitive digital solutions for Filipinos,” Ngo said.

With the latest update, EastWest debit cardholders can now add their cards to Google Wallet and make payments using compatible Android devices or wearables for in-store, online and international transactions.

The bank said the integration allows customers to turn their mobile devices into a digital wallet, eliminating the need to carry physical cards for everyday purchases such as groceries, transport fares and online shopping.

Backed by the Visa network, EastWest debit cards are accepted at millions of merchants worldwide, allowing users to pay locally and abroad through Google Pay.

EastWest said the feature also benefits clients who travel frequently, particularly holders of the EastWest Visa Infinite Debit Card, which comes with several international travel perks.

These include foreign exchange fees as low as 1.7 percent, with a promotional waiver on bank conversion fees until March 31. Cardholders also receive waived interbank domestic withdrawal fees, up to 10 free international automated teller machines withdrawals annually, as well as access to Visa Infinite concierge services for travel planning.

EastWest is a subsidiary of Filinvest Development Corp., one of the country’s major conglomerates with interests spanning real estate, banking, hospitality, infrastructure, power generation and sugar.
