TACLOBAN CITY — The Diocese of Borongan in Eastern Samar is mourning the passing of one of its priests who died in a vehicular accident at the national road of Barangay Naubay, Llorente, Eastern Samar, on Wednesday morning.

Fr. James Abella, chancellor of the Diocese of Borongan, said in a statement that Fr. Alejandro "Alex" Galo Jr. died after hitting an SUV coming from another direction.

The priest was bound for the southern part of Eastern Samar while driving on a sharp curve of the national highway.

He was 66.

Galo was the church custodian of properties of the Diocese of Borongan.

"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fr. Alejandro 'Alex' Galo, who tragically lost his life in a vehicular accident this morning at the age of 66," said Father Abella.

"We ask for your prayers during this difficult time as we honor the life and legacy of a remarkable servant of God. The details regarding the wake Masses and burial will be communicated shortly," added Abella.

"Let us come together in prayer, remembering Fr. Alex in our hearts and asking for God's comfort for all who mourn his loss," said Abella.

The Diocese of Borongan is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Palo.
