DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Staunch Duterte ally and incumbent lawmaker Isidro Ungab won his third and last term as Davao City 3rd District representative on Monday, May 12.

The local board of canvassers here said he got 178,721 votes compared to Davao City councilor Nonoy Al-Ag’s 30,687, and 3rd district lawmaker Ruy Elias Lopez‘s 19,243. He also won over independent candidates Lito Monreal and Dindo Plaza.

Ungab ran under the Duterte-led Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod.

The 64-year-old lawmaker will add another three years to his term as 3rd district representative — 18 years in total. He served as lawmaker for three consecutive terms, from 2007 to 2016, then successfully launched a comeback in 2019. Ungab will serve until 2028.

Ungab succeeded Lopez in the post, when the son of former Davao City mayor Elias Lopez completed his final term in 2007.

A true Duterte ally, Ungab was part of the list of lawmakers who did not sign the House of Representatives’ impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Amid the congressional hearing on the Vice President’s alleged misuse of her office’s confidential funds, Ungab was among the few lawmakers who defended the former presidential daughter. In another lower chamber hearing in September 2024, Ungab defended the Vice President again — that time hitting back at the critics of his ally.

In January, Ungab, along with former Marcos official-turned-Duterte ally Vic Rodriguez, filed a petition with the Supreme Court to challenge the constitutionality of the 2025 budget of the Marcos government. – Rappler.com
