THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has partnered with the Philippine Ports Authority to preposition ready-to-eat food in seaports nationwide for emergencies.
Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rexlon Gatchalian described the initiative as a proactive step aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen the country’s disaster preparedness.
“This is a step in the right direction: part of building disaster resilience,” Gatchalian said in a statement on Saturday, noting the prepositioned food boxes would be distributed to stranded passengers during typhoons and weather disturbances that halt sea travel across the country.

““These kits fill a critical gap in our relief operations because they require no cooking, allowing passengers and families to feed themselves without waiting for government support staff,” Gatchalian added.

Each food box contains five cans of tuna paella, one can of chicken pastil, one can of giniling, two packs of arroz caldo, three packs of champorado, two protein biscuits and one complementary food for infants.
“We tested everything ourselves, we made sure it’s not only nutritious, but also delicious,” Gatchalian said.
