CAUAYAN CITY — Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino has announced that the Department of Social Welfare and Development will implement the Litaw (Light, Internet, Water, Assistance and Welfare) program for low-income villagers next week.

The Litaw program under the Three-Gives Law, which Senator Tolentino authored, will provide assistance and support to villagers affected by calamities and in need of government assistance.

Based on the scheme, affected villagers are allowed to pay their utility service bills such as electricity, water and internet in three-month installments, especially during calamities or any emergency.

Tolentino said that Filipinos are often worried about the problem of expensive electricity, water and internet service charges, which is why he pushed the said law.

Tolentino added that among those who will benefit from the program are poor families and members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

"This should be the right of Filipinos but there are many families who are struggling to pay for water, internet and electricity so this is a big help for them," said Tolentino during his sorties in this city on Tuesday.

He also held sorties in Alicia, San Guillermo, Angadanan on the same day, and in San Manuel, Aurora, Burgos and Ilagan City on Wednesday.

"This is an answer to the problems of families as I saw how many disaster victims are forced to prioritize payment for their utility bills to avoid disconnection, while still in the process of rebuilding their damaged houses and recouping from destroyed properties," he added.

The senator also distributed food packs to 600 families and 600 beneficiaries worth P2,000 each under the Assistance in Crisis Situation (AICS) program in San Guillermo town on Tuesday.

He also distributed the same number of food packs and AICS beneficiaries in San Manuel town on Wednesday.
