MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is giving top priority to the completion of a three-kilometer diversion road in General Trias City, Cavite – a project that has been ongoing for the past 10 years due to funding gaps and legal snags.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency is fast-tracking the project as part of the administration’s “de-clogging” strategy for stalled infrastructure.

President Marcos earlier ordered the DPWH to ensure that the three-kilometer Punta-Open Canal diversion road is fully operational by 2027 to put an end to the 10-year wait.

To bypass the bureaucratic hurdles that have hampered the project for years, Dizon announced that the DPWH would be downloading right-of-way (ROW) funds directly to the local government unit to speed up the land acquisition and clearing operations.

He noted that the localized approach to resolving ROW issues would be the new standard for DPWH projects nationwide.
