MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Domeng is expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm before dawn today, and to a typhoon tomorrow before exiting the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said that based on weather projections, Domeng may develop into a severe tropical storm at around 2 a.m. and will maintain its strength for the rest of the day.
Domeng was last spotted at 1,120 kilometers east of Central Luzon. It was moving west-northwest at 10 kilometers per hour, packing winds of 85 kph and gusts of 105 kph.
As of yesterday, Domeng had not directly affected the country. No tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised in any area.
Although Domeng may intensify into a typhoon, its chance of making landfall is low.
However, if the storm moves west, tropical cyclone wind signals may be raised in some parts of extreme Northern Luzon, PAGASA said.
