MANILA, Philippines — Prosecutors have dismissed excise tax complaints against contractor couple Sara and Curlee Discaya, citing “valid defenses raised,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.
In an interview with reporters on Monday, February 2, Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon said the excise tax complaints filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) were dismissed after evaluation by prosecutors.
The complaints, filed in October 2025, involved the alleged failure of the couple to pay excise taxes on nine luxury vehicles registered under their names.
Other tax cases. DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said in a separate message to reporters that two other tax evasion cases against the Discayas have not yet been filed before the Court of Tax Appeals.
On January 27, Martinez said prosecutors resolved five tax cases against the couple, three of which were dismissed.
The remaining two cases are set to be filed before the appellate tax court. These involve alleged violations of Section 254 of the National Internal Revenue Code, or willful attempt to evade or defeat taxes, and Section 255, or willful failure to supply correct and accurate information.
