MANILA, Philippines — Eleven more drugs were included in the Philippine National Formulary (PNF)’s list of essential medicines, according to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
Vaccines against severe diarrhea in young children, medications to treat HIV/AIDS and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease as well as contraceptives were included in the list.
The medicines in the PNF as of Jan. 27 were approved by the Department of Health, PhilHealth said.
The state health insurer has reminded hospitals and other health facilities to ensure that supplies of PNF medicines are always available to the public.
“Health care providers should ensure that PNF drugs are always available for their usual case mix, which will then be used as basis or reference for claims reimbursements and performance monitoring,” PhilHealth said.
