MANILA, Philippines — Initiatives to fund a new Bureau of Customs headquarters are supported by the Department of Finance (DOF), the BOC said yesterday.
Expediting the release of pending balikbayan box shipments is one of the DOF’s orders, Customs officials said.
In 2019, a fire hit the BOC main office at the Port of Manila.
From January to October, the BOC reported a revenue increase of nearly one percent, rising to P784.6 billion from P777.6 billion last year.
The current collection stands at 81.8 percent of the total programmed target of P958.7 billion.
Go backs BOC reforms
Finance Secretary Frederick Go has expressed support for the reforms being implemented by Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.
During Go’s first command conference on Nov. 28 since his appointment, the BOC reported key accomplishments, including progress in revenue collection, anti-smuggling operations, trade facilitation as well as initiatives that strengthen transparency and good governance.
The BOC is an attached agency of the DOF.
Nepomuceno outlined the reforms undertaken under his leadership, such as measures to enhance operational integrity, upgrade digital systems, improve communication platforms and expand services for stakeholders. — Bella Cariaso
