Local beauty pageant fans have another queen to celebrate as this year's Reina Hispanoamericana representative, Dia Mate, has won the crown for the country.
Dia Mate prevailed over 24 other contestants during the live coronation night held in Santa Cruz, Bolivia and will succeed Reina Hispanoamericana Maricielo Gamarra from Peru. Dia impressed the judges during the question and answer portion where she was asked what values she considers are essential to create a fair society and why is it important.
Dia's response to the question was: “I think the most important value that we should have is kindness. In my experience here in Bolivia, Latinas have shown me so much kindness and so much love even though racially I am not Latino. And the most beautiful thing I've noticed is that even though we don't speak the same language, we share the same culture, same heart, and same faith in God, and I hope this shows everybody that if we use kindness we can show that we are all the same and can create a better world and a better society for us all.”
Dia's Reina Hispanoamericana win makes her only the second Filipina to win the crown after Teresita “Winwyn” Marquez' win in 2017, making her the first non-Latina to do so.
Dia won the right to represent the country in the pageant after competing in the 2025 Miss World Philippines, where Krishnah Gravidez won the crown.

Reina Hispanoamericana was first established in 1991 as Reina Sudamerica and only allowed countries in South America to compete. Starting in 2004, it began to include countries in Central America. In 2007, it changed its name to Reina Hispanoamericana and by 2017, the Philippines was allowed to compete in the pageant.
