MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has initiated an investigation into videos circulating on social media concerning alleged acts of sexual abuse involving certain teachers and learners at the Parañaque National High School.
Students of Parañaque National High School staged a protest on Monday over allegations that some teachers had sexually harassed students.
“These allegations are being treated with the utmost seriousness, urgency and impartiality. The Schools Division Office has initiated the appropriate processes and is undertaking the necessary actions in accordance with existing laws, Department of Education policies, child protection protocols and due process requirements,” DepEd assured the public.
“Appropriate support mechanisms are being made available, and all concerned offices are coordinating closely to ensure that the rights and welfare of affected learners are safeguarded throughout the process,” it added.
DepEd said the Schools Division Office of Parañaque is coordinating with appropriate authorities for the proper handling of the case and any necessary legal and administrative proceedings.
2 students stabbed
Meanwhile, school authorities in Negros Occidental tightened security following two separate stabbing incidents involving students.
A Grade 9 student of Julio Ledesma National High School in San Carlos City was stabbed yesterday outside the school premises.
The school administration said the student had informed his class adviser about a perceived threat before the incident.
The adviser instructed the learner not to leave the campus while efforts were being made to contact the student’s parent or guardian.
However, despite the precautionary measures, the student allegedly left the campus against the adviser’s instructions.
Another student was injured after being stabbed in Barangay Antipolo, Negros Occidental on Monday.
Police said the victim, identified only as Chamcham, a 19-year-old criminology student, was allegedly stabbed by a 43-year-old laborer known as Atong after being told to go home. — Gilbert Bayoran
