West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. announced the completion of its pipe replacement project in Quezon City, a move set to improve the decades-old distribution network that had been causing low water pressure and leaks for its consumers.

In a statement on Tuesday, May 6, Maynilad said the ₱218 million project involved replacing three kilometers of pipeline across Barangays Greater Fairview, Holy Spirit, Maharlika, Pag-ibig sa Nayon, and San Jose.

These pipes, aged between 10 and 40 years, have been upgraded to enhance Maynilad’s water delivery service for approximately 21,000 customers in the area.

The project is also expected to cut down water losses by about 3.14 million liters per day (MLD). Maynilad noted that it has “also boosted supply pressure into a range of 7 to 11 psi (pounds per square inch), sufficient to deliver water to second- and third-floor fixtures without the need for booster pumps.”

The company has now replaced around 70 percent of aging pipes in its concession areas and will continue its network upgrades to recover more water.

It’s worth recalling that Maynilad has already replaced 142 kilometers of pipes in parts of Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Pasay, Makati, Quezon City, and Caloocan through its ₱6 billion Non-Revenue Water (NRW) program.

Since 2007, the company has replaced a total of 3,264 kilometers of pipelines, a distance comparable to that between the Philippines and Japan.

Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito S. Fernandez acknowledged the government’s assistance in the company’s network improvement initiatives.

“I would like to thank the local government for their prompt support in granting permits for these projects. Their cooperation was vital to minimizing traffic disruptions and will ultimately benefit consumers through more reliable service,” he stated.

Maynilad is currently the largest private water concessionaire under the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), serving parts of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and several areas in Cavite.
