GMG Productions has announced that the October 2 performance of "Dear Evan Hansen" at the Theatre at Solaire will be interpreted in Filipino Sign Language (FSL), making the acclaimed musical accessible to the deaf community.
The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Benilde Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD) and the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies – Interpreting Education Program (SDEAS-IEP).
FSL interpreters from Benilde will perform live throughout the show to ensure deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences can follow the story, music, and emotions of the production.
“At GMG Productions, we’ve always believed in the power of theatre to connect, heal, and bring people together,” said Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions.
"Dear Evan Hansen carries a deep message, one that reminds us that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and understood. This is why we are proud to make this production more inclusive by offering an FSL-interpreted performance.”
A dedicated orchestra section has been reserved for deaf patrons and their companions, with seats offering clear views of the stage and interpreters.
Tickets for these seats are available with the promo code ACCESSSEATS, which provides a 20% discount. Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members with a valid PWD card may also claim the standard government-mandated discount at TicketWorld outlets.
"Dear Evan Hansen" runs until October 5 at the Theatre at Solaire, with tickets exclusively available via TicketWorld.
This staging marks the first stop in Asia for the UK touring company, after 32 cities across Britain. Directed by Adam Penford, with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a book by Steven Levenson, the Manila run is a milestone for the city’s theater community, which is proving itself ready for musicals that both entertain and challenge. —Sherylin Untalan/JCB, GMA Integrated News
