What to do under extreme heat

Amid soaring temperatures, authorities remind the public of the following steps to stay safe under extreme heat:

  • Watch for symptoms such as headaches, vomiting, and muscle cramps, which may signal fatigue, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke.
  • Prolonged exposure can lead to more serious signs like confusion, loss of consciousness, or seizures.
  • Stay in shaded or well-ventilated areas whenever possible.
  • Wear light clothing and use cold compresses or ice packs to cool down.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, at least eight glasses of water daily. Consider electrolyte drinks or juices to replace lost salts.
  • When outdoors, use umbrellas, hats, or caps for protection from direct sunlight.
