COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 12 has filed criminal charges against a couple arrested early this week in President Quirino town in Sultan Kudarat in an entrapment operation assisted by local executives and Moro community leaders, the PDEA-12 regional director announced on Saturday, February 21.
Charlene Magdurulang, director of PDEA 12, told reporters that the suspects, the 54-year-old Abu, a driver of a passenger van, and his 49-year-old spouse, both detained, now awaiting prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Local executives and barangay officials separately told reporters on Friday that they would help the PDEA prosecute both of them in court.
The couple was arrested by agents of PDEA 12 and anti-narcotics operatives from different units of the Police Regional Office 12 after procuring from them 50 grams of shabu, costing P340,000, during a tradeoff last Monday at Purok Ligaya in Barangay Pedtubo in President Quirino.
Magdurulang said the entrapment operation that resulted in their arrest and confiscation of P340,000 worth of shabu was enforced with the help of local officials and Muslim religious leaders in Sultan Kudarat, overtly supporting the anti-narcotics campaign in the province of the PDEA 12 and the police.
Local executives and traditional Moro leaders in President Quirino told reporters that the couple, residing in Barangay Bayawa in President Quirino, also peddled marijuana occasionally, supplied by remnants of the two now defunct terror groups, the Dawlah Islamiya and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
