TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco described the recently concluded Philippine Experience Program (PEP) in the Cordillera Administrative Region as a “powerful celebration of heritage, people, and unity,” highlighting the depth of Filipino culture expressed through the region’s artistry and community spirit.

Frasco said in a statement on Monday that the Cordilleras exemplify how tourism can serve as a bridge between culture and progress, noting that the people’s creativity and traditions reflect “the very essence of an authentic Philippine experience.”

“The Cordillera Festival of Festivals is more than a day of joy: it is a symbol of our unity as Filipinos,” stressed Frasco.

She emphasized that while tourism contributes significantly to the nation’s economy, its true wealth lies in our people, farmers, local artisans, and communities who build and care for our destinations.

The final leg of the PEP in the Cordilleras concluded with a visit to the Festival of Festivals Exhibit at Malcolm Square, where delegates witnessed how local products, crafts, and performances proudly showcase the region’s identity and ingenuity.

Frasco said the vibrant market scene of Baguio City, known for its fresh produce and handmade goods, reflects the Cordillera’s living culture while empowering MSMEs and ensuring tourism benefits reach those who make our destinations thrive.

Ambassadors and diplomatic envoys from Bangladesh, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam joined the four-day immersion, expressing admiration for the region’s hospitality and the DOT’s vision of promoting unity in diversity through community-based tourism.

“We learned that the Philippines is a great country, diverse communities living together and thriving as one nation,” Bangladesh Ambassador H.E. Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood said.

As the Philippine Experience Program continues across regions, Frasco affirmed that the DOT remains committed to promoting tourism that uplifts every community and celebrates the people whose stories, traditions, and talents make the Philippines truly extraordinary.
