COTABATO CITY — Policemen seized P2.6 million worth of shabu from four dealers linked to remnants of the now-defunct Dawlah Islamiya, who were entrapped in Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur, on Saturday, February 28.

Brig. Gen. Jaysen De Guzman, director of the Police Regional Office–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, confirmed to reporters on Monday, March 2, that all four male suspects are now in custody and will be prosecuted for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Local executives and members of the Lanao del Sur Provincial Peace and Order Council, chaired by Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr., told reporters that the suspects, Fahad Lumiguis Alangca, Osmeña Domado Usman, Jamal Pasca Ali, and Nani Ibrahim Karim, are linked to remnants of the now-defunct Dawlah Islamiya terror group, which occasionally supplied them with dried marijuana sold in interior areas of the province.

Lanao del Sur, part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, has seen 413 members of Dawlah Islamiya from its 39 towns surrender in batches over the past three years to units of PRO-BAR and the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade.

De Guzman said the four men were immediately arrested after turning over 388 grams of shabu, worth P2.6 million, to non-uniformed anti-narcotics agents from various PRO-BAR units during a tradeoff in Barangay Poblacion, Saguiaran, near Marawi City, the provincial capital.

De Guzman said the entrapment operation that led to the suspects’ arrest was carried out with the assistance of Gov. Mamintal Adiong, local executives in Saguiaran and members of the municipality’s Islamic community.

He added that Maranao community leaders and Adiong helped plan the operation, which resulted in the confiscation of P2.6 million worth of shabu.
