MANILA, Philippines — Candidates in the forthcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) should file their certificates of candidacy (COC) in October, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia yesterday gave assurance that the BSKE will take place in November.

“I want to announce that the BSKE will definitely happen on Nov. 2… The filing of the COC is set for October,” Garcia said.

He said they would release the calendar of activities for the BSKE this week.

The Comelec estimated that the number of registered new voters could reach four million.

In an earlier interview, Garcia said that out of the estimated four million new voters, about half or two million belonged to the youth sector and would be voting in the SK elections.

Eligible to vote in the SK are those belonging to the 15-24 years age group.

Garcia said the poll body will set up satellite registration sites to make the process more accessible, especially for the youth.

Voter registration resumed on Oct. 20, 2025 and runs until May 18 this year.
