MANILA, Philippines — Only a few candidates in the recent midterm polls have submitted their statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) to the Commission on Elections.

The Comelec is expecting more submissions a week before the June 11 deadline, the poll body’s spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said yesterday.

All candidates are required to submit their SOCE, he noted.

Winning bets cannot assume their post until they submit their SOCE to the Comelec, Laudiangco warned.

Violators will be fined and may face perpetual disqualification from holding public office and cancellation of their certificate of candidacy.

Submitted SOCEs will be posted on the Comelec website after June 11.

The public should check if poll bets in their areas truthfully reported their expenditures and contributions received, he advised.

BH party

Despite the dismissal of the disqualification petition against Bagong Henerasyon, the Comelec cannot proclaim the party-list group yet.

The poll body will look into the merits of the motion for reconsideration filed by the petitioner, Garcia said.

A technicality led to the dismissal of the case as the petitioner failed to provide the respondent with a copy of the petition, he noted.

Meanwhile, the disqualification case against Duterte Youth is more complicated as it “goes into the very heart of accreditation,” Garcia said.

The Comelec Second Division will release a decision soon, he noted.
