MANILA, Philippines — In Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," the titular character is the final child to win a golden ticket in order to enter the factory of chocolatier Willy Wonka.

For young actor Cohen Toukatly, getting to play Charlie Bucket in the musical adaptation of Dahl's book is his own "golden ticket" moment.

Cohen was in Manila on Thursday, January 8, following the confirmation that the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" would debut in the Philippines later this year, to meet with members of the press including Philstar.com.

During the media conference, Cohen was asked what were his favorite parts about bringing Charlie's story to life, and he answered they were the characters' kindheartedness and respect for others.

"He really shares a deep meaning in a meaningful lesson," Cohen said. "Being able to bring this character to life, to show people what being kind can get you, is awesome."

The young actor did express excitement performing for Asian audiences, sharing in the fear, stress, love, and enjoyment of his first big production.

Asked what would he take home from Wonka's factory without consequences, Cohen answered the giant Wonka bar that shows up in the Wonkavision Room, pointing out it's as big as show director Drew Cipillone.

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" will run at the Theatre at Solaire this July 2026.
