MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Coast Guard personnel rescued five people who almost drowned after strong waves carried them away from the beach in San Fabian town in Pangasinan, the PCG reported yesterday.
According to the PCG, their baywatch patrol personnel received a request for assistance after five people who were swimming in Barangay Nibaliw Vidal got swept away by strong waves and current.
The PCG said the five were drowning when rescuers found them.
After a medical check-up, the five were turned over to their families, the PCG said.
Meanwhile, the PCG station in Surigao del Sur reminded people visiting beaches to “only swim in designated areas.”
“Always follow the instructions of lifeguards and Coast Guard personnel. Check the weather conditions before swimming and do not swim alone. Always have a buddy or stay within sight of others,” the PCG said.
Parents are also reminded to keep an eye on children at all times to prevent accidents.
