MANILA, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has received at least 40 pieces of information on the possible location of businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang since the manhunt began, an official said yesterday.

CIDG-National Capital Region chief Col. John Guiagui said many of the tips were similar, pointing to game farms and properties linked to Ang’s friends and associates, which police have already checked in Cavite, Batangas and Laguna.

Guiagui said authorities have also validated information from other areas, including parts of Central Luzon, Nueva Vizcaya, Pampanga, the Bicol Region and Metro Manila, though no confirmed sighting has been established.

Some tips suggested Ang may have fled abroad, possibly to Cambodia or Thailand, following statements by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla. Guiagui said police attachés have been alerted, but stressed that the manhunt in the Philippines remains intensified.

“As long as there is no confirmed sighting abroad, our efforts here in the country will continue in full force,” he said.

Guiagui said several reports referred to sightings prior to the issuance of Ang’s warrant of arrest, including claims that he was seen visiting game farms or receiving deliveries of luxury seafood.

The CIDG has also served a subpoena on notaries involved in documents related to firearms surrendered by Ang’s group, including an affidavit of loss for a missing firearm.
Guiagui said authorities are verifying when the documents were notarized and whether Ang personally appeared, especially in relation to the timing of the warrant of arrest.

Police said Ang was last reportedly seen in Pasig City before the warrant was issued.

Monitoring of previously checked locations continues, Guiagui said, as pressure remains until Ang is arrested.
“All PNP units and other agencies are helping in the search. This is our mandate, not only to enforce the law but to give justice to those seeking answers,” Guiagui said.
