CEBU CITY — Police arrested a 37-year-old Chinese for allegedly attempting to extort P20,000 from a fellow Chinese citizen by threatening him with a fake arrest warrant in Mandaue City.
The entrapment operation took place at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday along Mantawi Drive in Barangay Tipolo.
The arrest came after the 55-year-old victim reported that the suspect had called him, claimed there was a pending case against him and demanded money to prevent his arrest.
Knowing the accusation was false, the victim sought help from Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Station 2. Its intelligence unit quickly arranged the sting, which ended with the suspect caught receiving the marked money.
BGen. Redrico Maranan, director of Police Regional Office 7, said the operation showed the commitment of the police to apply the law fairly and protect everyone in the community.
