MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC) on Tuesday launched its robotic surgical system, designed to be used in performing minimally invasive surgery.
The Toumai Endoscopic Single-Port Robotic Surgical System is the first single-port robotic surgical platform introduced in the Philippines.
“Following official approval from the Philippine Food and Drug Administration, this landmark innovation marks a transformative step forward in minimally invasive surgery and reinforces CGHMC’s commitment to world-class patient care, surgical precision and medical innovation,” CGHMC president and chief executive officer Kelly Sia said.
The robotic surgical system is expected to improve recovery for patients undergoing urologic, gynecologic and general surgical procedures.
“By utilizing a single-entry point, the system further reduces surgical trauma, minimizes post-operative pain, shortens hospital stays and promotes faster recovery,” Sia said.
The technology “highlights the strong and enduring partnership between the Philippines and China – a relationship that continues to grow particularly in the field of health care and medical technology,” Sia said.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa congratulated the CGHMC.
“I am here today to see the historic launch of the country’s single port robotic surgical system, the first one outside China in the ASEAN region,” Herbosa said.
