The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) has issued a closure order and revocation of the government recognition to Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) in Borongan City, Eastern Samar for its non compliance to the policies, standards, and guidelines (PSGs) of the commission,

The closure order is effective Academic Year 2025-2026, according to CHEd chairman Prospero de Vera 3rd.

In a statement, CHEd said that it ordered the closure and revocation of the government orders of its Bachelor in Elementary Education and the two-year midwifery programs of the OLMC and also issued a show-cause order for non-compliance with CHED's PSGs on the offering of BS Criminology and BS Nursing programs.

"Upon the evaluation of CHEd through its Regional Office 8, OLMC was found to be non compliant with the PSG in Criminology and Nursing Programs of the Commission, hence, the need for imposition of sanctions by CHEd," the commission said.

The Commission also raised complaints about the issuance of their school records and credentials at media outlets and CHEd Regional Office 8.

"The Commission has done what we can do to help OLMC but still the College remains non-compliant with our PSGs. The closure is issued to ensure student access to quality education. Rest assured that we will assist the transfer of affected students to reputable higher education intitutions," de Vera said.

The commission said that fourth year students will be allowed to continue their studies and graduate by the end of Academic Year 2024-2025, while the first year, second year, and third year students will be assisted by CHEd Regional Office 8 to transfer to other recognized programs or higher education institutions.
