MANILA, Philippines — Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson revealed his interest with the beleaguered Miss Universe Organization (MUO), teasing about possibly buying it.

Singson talked to GMA Lifestyle to address the circulating rumors that he declined to buy MUO, which continues to be hounded by controversies involving its current president, Raul Rocha and reigning Miss Universe Fatima Bosch weeks after its Bangkok finals last month.

“Things are not yet final, but they'll come here next month,” Singson told the news outlet.

The businessman said that the MUO’s current problems prompted him to consider the beauty franchise. He told his daughter, presumably Richelle Singson, to get in touch with MUO because he wanted to “buy and run” it.

Richelle was the chairperson of the Miss Universe Host Committee that organized Miss Universe 2016 held in the Philippines.

“They're coming to the Philippines next month. I might run Miss Universe. I might buy it,” Singson said.

It is not the first time that Singson was linked to the beauty franchise. In 2023, Singson told Philstar.com that he was offered to buy it but he declined.

“Binibigay sa akin pero hindi ko binili kasi masyadong matrabaho. Sabi ko, tutulong na lang ako,” he said.
