COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Gunmen wounded a cashier of a controversial power cooperative in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, on Thursday, February 5.
The 44-year-old victim, Kubaisa Kanakan Sinsuat, was driving her red Toyota Vios, bearing license plates MBD 6872, on her way to Cotabato City, when she was attacked by gunmen in Barangay Tamonka in Datu Odin Sinsuat, not too distant from the main office of the Maguindanao Electric Cooperative, most known as Magelco.
Sinsuat is a cashier of Magelco, operating in the adjoining Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte provinces, whose residents and local executives have frequently been complaining about recurring, long power outages in their villages and many other issues that are often topics of public affairs programs of radio stations around.
Major Katherine Paydoen, Datu Odin Sinsuat police chief, told reporters on Friday that their investigators and barangay officials are cooperating in identifying the assailants of Sinsuat, who belong to a big Moro clan in Maguindanao del Norte.
Emergency responders immediately brought Sinsuat to a hospital in Cotabato City, about seven kilometers north of where she was ambushed, for treatment.
The gunmen who ambushed Sinsuat managed to escape, using getaway motorcycles, before responding policemen and barangay officials could reach the scene, according to investigators from the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station.
