OLONGAPO CITY — A candidate for vice mayor has admonished the alleged illegal political activity held atop the SM Olongapo Central on Maundy Thursday.

Incumbent councilor and vice mayoral candidate Kaye Legaspi said that she is concerned over the supposed partisan political activity conducted by the Team Paulino at the tennis court above the mall on April 17.

She said that the video showed vice mayoral bet Rodel Cerezo attending the activity.

"It's disheartening that while most of us were praying and deeply pondering during Holy Week, there was 'giving away' that happened at a tennis court on top of a mall," she said.

The councilor said Commission on Elections Resolution 10999 provides that campaigning on these dates is prohibited.

Any election campaign or partisan political activity for or against any candidate outside of the campaign period is prohibited and shall be considered as an election offense punishable under Section 263 and 264 of the Omnibus Election Code, she said.

"It is clear that based on the Omnibus Election Code, specifically Sections 263 and 264, that giving away of any help, money or in-kind by any candidate during the campaign period is prohibited," she added.

The posting of the video that showed Cerezo at the said event raised public concerns, the reason why she had asked the poll body and other concerned agencies to conduct a quick, fair and transparent investigation to ensure if there are any violations.
