TUGUEGARAO CITY — Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba led the distribution of brand-new utility vehicles to 25 barangay (villages) in the town of Alcala on March 1.
Mamba said that the vehicles will help strengthen management and public service capabilities of the barangay captains.
"By focusing directly on the barangay, the government's service to the people of Cagayan becomes more effective and faster with these utility vehicles," the governor said.
Mamba also noted the importance of having barangay officials participate in the proper use of provincial funds.
"It is difficult for me to spend government money, so I want to partner especially with the barangay officials because they are the closest to the people," Mamba said.

He added that the barangay is the first place people visit in times of emergency, so it is important that they have enough equipment and skills to deal with any situation.
Francisco Verzola, Alcala Association of Barangay Captains president, expressed the group's gratitude and appreciation for the vehicles.
Verzola said the barangay officials were eager to bring home their vehicles to be deployed in their respective areas, especially in times of emergency.
"We have been dreaming of having such rescue vehicles for a long time and now we have our rescue vehicles," he added.
