MANILA, Philippines — BYD Cars Philippines expects to post higher sales this year as more consumers shift to electrified vehicle options.

During the Manila International Auto Show, BYD Cars Philippines managing director Bob Palanca told reporters that the firm is aiming to sell more vehicles this year.

“Your numbers today will be smaller than tomorrow…So every brand would have an aspiration to climb. And we also do have our aspirations to climb,” he said.

Last year, BYD Cars Philippines’ sales surged by 446 percent to 26,122 units from just 4,780 units sold in 2024.

This led BYD to rank third in terms of Philippine automotive industry sales last year.

Palanca said more consumers are now moving to electrified mobility options from internal combustion engines.

However, he said it is too early to say how much of the country’s total automotive industry sales would be accounted for by electrified vehicles this year as the shift continues to take place.

While demand for electrified vehicles has been increasing since last year, rising fuel prices due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran are also helping drive the shift.

Palanca said BYD Cars Philippines is prepared to provide the vehicles the market requires.

“Customers are encouraged to place that reservation. And we are going to deliver the vehicle at the shortest possible time we can,” he said.

“We would want to have customers experience our cars because once they get to experience our vehicles, immediately they experience the savings,” he also said.

BYD Cars Philippines, a subsidiary of ACMobility, sells new energy vehicles.

At present, BYD Cars Philippines has 79 dealerships nationwide.
