CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — A 38-year-old American was injured after a shotgun bullet hit him as he was taking photos at Bayug Falls, the country’s second highest waterfall, on Sunday.

Capt. Romeo Arcilla, Talakag police station chief, said the tourist, identified only as Juven, was with a group taking pictures near the falls when a shot rang out.

Arcilla said the group’s guide advised the tourists to run for safety after seeing Juven bloodied and collapsing.

The guide sought help from the Bayug Falls control point before reporting to police, Arcilla said.

Juven was wounded in the face, neck, left chest and abdomen. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment and was later reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators said that, based on the nature of injuries, a shotgun may have been used in the shooting. The tour guides in the area told police that they heard a shot but did not see the person who fired it.

Arcilla said investigators are working to identify the suspect and determine motive.
