Bretman Rock has added a new toy to his collection – and it’s Filipino-inspired!
The Filipino-American content creator took to TikTok to share his latest collectible, a Monster High doll inspired by the Philippine mythical creature, manananaggal.
Bretman shared his first thoughts about the doll in the video, including the impressive little Filipino details on the doll, like the Terno outfit, the Sampaguita ornament, and the packaging that allows its upper body to slide up and down as well as its lower body to swing and rotate.
For his non-Filipino followers, Bretman also briefly described what manananggals do.
The manananggal, or self-segmenter, is a Filipino Aswang that can detach its torso from its lower body and take flight during the night to eat infants.
“They are my favorite aswangs,” he said. “They like to eat blood and heart.”
“When manananggals are haunting, they separate their bodies, and their weakness is usually garlic and salt,” he added.
Monster High unveiled the manananggal doll named Corazon Marikit in March.
The manananggal doll is priced at $75 or around P4,200 and is available on Mattel’s website.
In December 2024, Bretman received his own Filipino Barbie.
Bretman flew to the Philippines in March and went to Palawan and Bohol.
He also took his boyfriend, Justice Fester, to witness the Chocolate Hills in Bohol.
Bretman is now back in Hawaii and took a piece of home with him: Bohol’s Asin Tibuok.
