MANILA, Philippines — Oscar-winning actor and producer Brad Pitt takes his skills to the race track in "F1," the Formula One-inspired film helmed by "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski.

A trailer for the movie introduces Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver who is forced to retire after a horrible crash.

"Some people look at Sonny Hayes, they see a guy who lives in a van, a gambling junkie who missed his shot, the best that never was. But I see possibility," says Hayes' former teammate Ruben Cervantes played by another Oscar winner, Javier Bardem.

Cervantes is now the team owner of a Formula One team and he wants to enlist Hayes' help in mentornig rookie prodigy Joshua "Noah" Pearce portrayed by Damson Idris.

Hayes and Pearce butt heads over clips of intense racing, as well as in a scene involving Oscar nominee Kerry Condon's character Kate asking for constructive criticism between the two.

More action and emotional clips roll, bookended by Kate saying people are calling Hayes a "never-was" rather than a "has-been."

"If the last thing I do is drive that car, I will take that life man, a thousand times," says Hayes.

The trailer ends with Cervantes calling Formula 1 race winners the best in the world and Hayes in the driver's seat before the title card.

Also starring in the film are Tobias Menzies, Shea Wigham, Kim Bodnia, Joseph Balderrama, Sarah Niles, Samson Kayo, Callie Cooke, Will Merrick, and Layne Harper.

Seven-time Formula One World Drivers' Champion Lewis Hamilton is a producer on the film and will appear alongside his fellow drivers from the sport's 2023 and 2024 seasons.

These include his former Mercedes teammate George Russell, reigning champion Max Verstappen, then-Red Bull racer Sergio Pérez, Hamilton's new teammate Charles Leclerc, former Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and two-time champion Fernando Alonso.

"F1" premieres in Philippine cinemas on June 25, the week of the Austrian Grand Prix near the halfway point of the 2025 calendar. — Video from Warner Bros. Philippines' YouTube channel
