BPI to halt ‘load e-wallet’ feature for GCash, Maya

Customers may still load their e-wallet accounts through the BPI app's 'transfer to other banks' feature

MANILA, Philippines – The “load e-wallet” feature of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) mobile app will no longer be available for GCash and Maya starting Thursday, February 13, the bank announced.

In an advisory to its customers, BPI said it is pulling out the “load e-wallet” feature for GCash and Maya users. However, customers may still load their e-wallet accounts through the BPI app’s “transfer to other banks” feature.

Users will be charged a P25 transfer fee, higher than the P10 convenience charge for BPI to GCash transfers under the “load e-wallet” feature.

GCash users can also link their BPI accounts within the e-wallet app. Cashing in directly from the GCash app will cost P5.

Both GCash and BPI are under the Ayala Group of Companies. But BPI has its own e-wallet called VYBE.

BPI announced on Wednesday, February 12, that fund transfers from VYBE to other e-wallets are free.
