A 12-year-old boy who has a tumor in his eyelid and brain is seeking help through GMA Kapuso Foundation so he can undergo surgery.
Carlo Mendoza's experience with neurofibromatosis was first featured in "24 Oras" in May 2024.
According to "24 Oras" Monday, the GMA Kapuso Foundation visited Carlo anew to celebrate his 12th birthday and to check how he is doing. He and his family were also given groceries and other essentials.
Carlo has a tumor in his brain as big as a medium-sized tomato and another tumor in his eyelid the size of a small calamansi.
"Ito'y isang sakit kung saan nagkakaroon ng maliliit na bukol ang mga ugat sa katawan. Genetic ho kasi siya," said ophthalmologist Dr. Lisa Katrina Liberato.
Carlo also has wounds all over his body, although these have slowly healed thanks to the medication he was prescribed by dermatologist Dr. Grace Beltran.
"We could give again oral antibiotics tapos 'yung mga lotion at pamahid para maiwasan 'yung pagkati at pagkaroon ng nana," said Dr. Beltran.
Carlo needs to undergo surgery to remove the tumor in his brain and to be fitted with a metal orbital roof implant, according to the report.
"Ang plan namin is tatanggalin muna 'yung bukol dun sa utak. So if hindi natin ma-operahan, may possibility pa rin talaga na mas lalong lumala 'to, pwede rin ho mas lalong lumuwa 'yung mata," explained Dr. Liberato. "Para hindi lalabas 'yung parte ng utak dun sa mata, kailangan ng implant para mapigil po 'yun."
For those who wish to help Carlo, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
Meanwhile, the medicines and supplies needed for GMA Kapuso Foundation's Kapuso Caravan Medical Mission in Bago City, Negros Occidental have been delivered to the area with assistance from the Philippine Air Force, the Office of Civil Defense, and the 33rd Brigade of the Philippine Army.
These will be distributed to 1,000 residents who have been affected by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.
