MANILA, Philippines — Former lawmaker Bong Revilla is to be detained in a Quezon City jail over his malversation charge.

During the return of the warrant of arrest before the Sandiganbayan Special Third Division on Tuesday, January 20, it was stated that Revilla will stay in the male dorm of the Quezon City jail in Payatas.

According to the anti-graft court, Revilla’s stay at the Quezon City jail is a temporary arrangement until the January 23 hearing regarding his request for a transfer to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

The anti-graft court cited a letter from PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, who urged reconsideration of further transfers to the PNP Custodial Center.

Nartatez told the court that these “commitments” overextend the police force's budget and personnel.

Meanwhile, Revilla’s co-accused, former Department of Public Works and Highways engineers Jaypee Mendoza, Brice Hernandez and official Arjay Domasig.

Revilla also posted a bail of P90,000 on his graft charge on Tuesday, before his transfer to the Quezon City jail, as his malversation case is not bailable.

The former lawmaker surrendered to the police in the evening of January 19, where he underwent booking and medical procedures. The anti-graft court issued the arrest warrant on the same day he surrendered.

His case stemmed from the P92.8 million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan, which investigators alleged was non-existent. — with reports from the STAR/ Daphne Galvez
