MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Bong Revilla surrendered to the Philippine National Police on Monday evening, January 19, following the issuance of a warrant of arrest against him.
Revilla arrived at Camp Crame in Quezon City shortly after 9 p.m., accompanied by acting PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
In an interview with reporters, Nartatez said Revilla voluntarily surrendered and would undergo standard booking and medical procedures.
He did not immediately say where Revilla would be detained.
Earlier in the day, the Sandiganbayan Third Division issued a warrant of arrest against Revilla for malversation of public funds through falsification of public documents, an offense that is non-bailable.
Case details. The case stems from a complaint filed by the Office of the Ombudsman on January 16 over a P92.8 million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan, which investigators alleged was non-existent.
Among his co-accused are former Department of Public Works and Highways engineers Brice Hernandez and Jaypee Mendoza, who were earlier turned over by the Senate to the National Bureau of Investigation on Monday.
Prior detention. This marks the second time Revilla has been detained in connection with corruption allegations.
In 2013, he was implicated in the pork barrel scam but was later acquitted by the Sandiganbayan due to insufficiency of evidence.
