CEBU CITY – The province of Bohol was recognized for outstanding efforts in promoting voluntary blood donation and strengthening community health services.
The province received the Apolinario Mabini Award from the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) during the 2025 Regional Blood Summit on Thursday, July 31, at the Summit Galleria Cebu in Cebu City.
The DOH-7 cited Bohol for its key contributions to the National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP).
Bohol received the award after achieving a 0.67 percent voluntary blood donation rate in 2024, contributing to the meeting of regional and national health targets for an accessible and safe blood supply.
Dr. Fruserma Mary Uy, Provincial Health Office officer-in-charge, and Blyke Bantugan, coordinator of the NVBSP, received the plaque.
“The award serves as a testament to the commitment and dedication of the NVBSP team in upholding the principles of safe, accessible, and sustainable blood donation services,” said Uy.
Bantugan said that the recognition reinforces the value of teamwork, strategic coordination, and community engagement in achieving public health goals.
“The award will serve as a motivation to further enhance blood service delivery and promote a culture of voluntary blood donation in the years to come,” said Bantugan, NVBSP coordinator since 2024.
