MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has taken full custody of eight high-value vehicles worth approximately P143 million after the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) ceased operations.
The BOC said the vehicles were seized on Jan. 8 during an operation in Taguig City.
Following the operation, the vehicles were placed under a warrant of seizure and detention and transferred to an ICI facility in Bonifacio Global City for temporary safekeeping due to space constraints at the BOC’s office at the Port of Manila.
Despite being stored offsite, the BOC maintained full custody and control over the units through its personnel, with security support from the Philippine Coast Guard.
The recent transfer to the Port of Manila became possible after the BOC disposed of other seized vehicles through recent auctions, freeing up space to accommodate the units previously stored at the ICI facility.
The Department of Justice has reported that over P611 million in funds and properties believed to have come from anomalous flood control projects have been recovered so far.
