BUSUANGA Island once faced daily brownouts lasting four to six hours, limiting economic growth. The entry of Calamian Islands Power Corp. (CIPC) in 2013 brought stable power, fueling tourism and local industries.

However, rapid expansion increased energy demand, necessitating additional capacity. To sustain progress, Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative Inc. (Biselco) signed a new 15-year power supply agreement (PSA) with Vivant Energy's CIPC. This builds on their partnership since 2011 and secures a 24-megawatt capacity for Busuanga and Coron, ensuring reliable electricity for homes, businesses, and communities.
The PSA, set to commence upon approval, supports the region's growing energy needs amid a booming tourism sector and expanding industries. Biselco General Manager Ruth Fortes stated, "This new PSA will pave the way for continuous and reliable power, ensuring fully lit households and businesses throughout Calamian."
CIPC President Eric Omamalin emphasized the partnership's long-term benefits: "Vivant Energy is committed to delivering reliable energy solutions. This agreement ensures a stable and sustainable power supply to support economic growth and enhance everyday life."
This 15-year PSA exemplifies the power of collaboration between private and cooperative sectors. By fostering long-term energy solutions, it sets a model for future projects that drive progress in underserved areas.
